Opacity

Work in progress, solo or duet with composer and musician William Troy. Exploration of the intersection of percussive dance and contemporary dance, its expressive potential, and character embodiment. The current version of the piece is 15 minutes long.

The research for the piece started during my MA studies at the Irish World Academy in 2022. I then further worked on introducing more percussive dance elements during a residency in Dance Ireland in 2023. The new version was then performed during the New Movements in Dance Ireland and the Culture Night Limerick event organized by Top8 Street Dance Battle in the same year. I worked on it further during my Siolta residency in Galway Dance in 2024 and performed at the Garter Lane in Waterford (Dance Scratch Night) and Nun’s Island Theatre in Galway (Galway Dance Momentum Showcase). The most recent version of the piece was performed as a duet with composer and musician William Troy at the Tradition and Beyond Festival in Echo Echo Dance Theatre in Derry in 2024.
